Thailand has become the first country in Southeast Asia and the biggest place in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. The Marriage Equality Bill, endorsed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has been published in the Royal Gazette and will officially come into effect in 120 days, on January 22, 2025. This landmark legislation allows same-sex couples to legally wed, marking a significant milestone in the region. Thailand joins Taiwan and Nepal as the third place in Asia to recognize same-sex unions.
