Chinese Influence Operations Targeting US Voters via TikTok and Social Media
Sep 3, 2024, 09:36 PM
Researchers have reported that US voters are being targeted by Chinese influence operations online, according to a Reuters report. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is allegedly using TikTok and other social media platforms to interfere with American elections. Senator Thom Tillis and Representative Frank Pallone have expressed concerns over the CCP's use of TikTok for these operations. A new report confirmed that Beijing is using social media trolls on TikTok, prompting calls for TikTok to divest from CCP control. TikTok has responded by stating that the majority of accounts mentioned in the report were not on its platform and that it has banned those that violated its Community Guidelines, as noted by Graphika.
