Con Edison Faces Scrutiny Over 100% Higher Gas Charges, Ritchie Torres Report
Aug 19, 2024, 09:57 AM
Con Edison is under scrutiny following an investigative report by Rep. Ritchie Torres, which reveals that the utility company charges significantly higher rates for gas delivery compared to National Grid. The report highlights that Con Edison, which holds a monopoly on gas services in the Bronx, Manhattan, and parts of Queens, charges $1.29 per therm in the Bronx, $1.01 per therm in Manhattan, and $0.92 per therm in Queens. In contrast, National Grid charges only $0.45 per therm in Queens. The findings have prompted calls for an investigation into Con Edison's pricing practices.
