Former South African finance minister and Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni has died at the age of 65. Mboweni, who was South Africa’s first Black central bank governor and first Labour Minister, passed away on Saturday. He was a prominent figure in shaping the country's post-apartheid economic policies and was praised for his fiscal prudence and contributions to labor laws. Mboweni was also a veteran anti-apartheid activist. President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed shock at Mboweni's death, describing him as a leader and economic flag bearer. Tributes have poured in from various quarters, including Discovery Group chief executive Adrian Gore, who hailed Mboweni's 'massive impact'. Zwelinzima Vavi, General Secretary of SAFTU, noted that workers have Mboweni to thank for their rights protected by the Labour Relations Act.
