Mboweni, who was South Africa’s first Black central bank governor and first Labour Minister, passed away on Saturday. He was a prominent figure in shaping the country's post-apartheid economic policies and was praised for his fiscal prudence and contributions to labor laws. Mboweni was also a veteran anti-apartheid activist. President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed shock at Mboweni's death, describing him as a leader and economic flag bearer.
