Delhi Floods: Three UPSC Students Die in Old Rajender Nagar Basement
Jul 28, 2024, 02:24 AM
Delhi has been grappling with severe waterlogging and flooding issues during the monsoon season, leading to tragic incidents. In Old Rajender Nagar, three students died after the basement of a UPSC coaching center flooded. The victims were from Kerala, Telangana, and UP. Rescue operations, involving 5 fire vehicles, recovered the bodies, which were sent to RML mortuary. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered by Delhi Minister Atishi Marlena. The incident has sparked a political blame game, with BJP leaders accusing the AAP government of corruption and negligence in maintaining drainage systems, which have led to waterlogging lasting 12-15 hours. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed an immediate investigation into the coaching centers operating in basements and promised strict action against any MCD officials found responsible. The Delhi Fire Department and police are continuing their efforts to pump out the remaining 7 feet of water from the affected areas.
