Youth Vaping in U.S. Drops to Decade Low at 7.8% in 2024, CDC and FDA Report
Sep 5, 2024, 06:14 PM
Youth vaping levels in the U.S. have fallen to their lowest in a decade, according to a new report from the CDC and the FDA. The decline, highlighted in the National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS), shows that half a million fewer U.S. youth reported current use of e-cigarettes in 2024 compared to 2023. This reduction is largely driven by high school students. Over the past five years, U.S. teenagers’ e-cigarette use has dropped by two-thirds as health regulators cracked down on illegal sales and distribution of these products. Despite this progress, the use of nicotine pouches, such as those sold under brands like Zyn and Rogue, has seen a slight increase. The past-30-day e-cigarette use is now at 5.9%, down from 7.7% the previous year, while past-30-day nicotine pouch use stands at 1.8%, up from 1.5% last year. Teen vaping peaked at 27.5% in 2019 and has now dropped to 7.8% in 2024.
