VisitFDA Authorizes Marketing of NJOY's First Non-Tobacco Menthol-Flavored E-Cigarettes
Jun 21, 2024, 04:17 PM
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the marketing of four menthol-flavored e-cigarette products made by Altria's NJOY brand. This decision marks the first time menthol-flavored e-cigarettes have been approved by federal regulators. The FDA's authorization follows an extensive scientific review and is part of the premarket tobacco product application pathway. The agency indicated that these products could serve as less harmful alternatives for adult smokers. The approval comes amid ongoing discussions about the potential benefits of vaping flavors in reducing the harms associated with traditional tobacco smoking. The products include two closed pods and two disposables, making them the first non-tobacco flavored e-cigarettes to be authorized. This decision also coincides with the Biden administration's delay on a proposed ban on menthol cigarettes.
