Nigeria has been officially accepted as a partner country in the BRICS alliance, as announced by Brazil, the current chair of the bloc. This development brings the total number of BRICS partner countries to nine, including Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. Nigeria, with the world's sixth-largest population and Africa's largest, is recognized for its significant economy and its active role in strengthening South-South cooperation and reforming global governance, priorities under Brazil's 2025 presidency. The BRICS bloc, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has been expanding its membership to include countries from various regions, reflecting its growing influence in global economic and political affairs.
