Ugandan Killer Avoids Deportation Due to ECHR Article 3 Mental Health Ruling
Sep 21, 2024, 05:34 AM
A Ugandan national who was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Eugen Breahna in the back of a London ambulance will not be deported from the UK. The decision was made by a court to protect his mental health, citing that deportation would be inhumane and breach his human rights under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), specifically Article 3. The ruling has sparked significant criticism and calls for the UK to leave the ECHR, with some arguing that the 1998 Human Rights Act, which gives the ECHR legal force, protects the wrong people. The Home Office had attempted to deport the individual.
