Israel Targets Hezbollah's Hashem Safieddine with Bunker Buster Bombs in Beirut Airstrikes
Oct 3, 2024, 10:01 PM
Israeli airstrikes targeted senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine in Beirut's southern suburb of Dahieh on Thursday night, according to multiple reports citing Israeli sources. Safieddine, a cousin and potential successor to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, was reportedly in a deep underground bunker when the strikes occurred. The Israeli Air Force allegedly used bunker buster bombs in the attack, which targeted a meeting of senior Hezbollah leaders. Israeli Channel 14, Axios reporter Barak Ravid, and The New York Times reported that the strikes aimed to eliminate Safieddine and possibly other top figures. The outcome of the attack remains unclear.
