Russia Aided Houthis' Attacks on Global Trade via IRGC Targeting Data
Oct 24, 2024, 08:28 PM
Russia provided satellite targeting data to Yemen's Houthi rebels, aiding their missile and drone attacks on Western ships in the Red Sea earlier this year, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The data was funneled through members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who were embedded with the Houthis. The Houthis, who began their attacks late last year over the Gaza war, expanded their strikes using Russian satellite data. The attacks disrupted a major artery for global trade, further destabilizing the region and showing how the Kremlin is seeking to tie up the U.S. in the Middle East, European defense officials said.
