Fergani Space Launches 102 kg FGN-100-d1 Satellite From Vandenberg on Transporter-12 Mission
Jan 15, 2025, 04:51 AM
Fergani Space, a subsidiary of the Turkish aerospace company Baykar, successfully launched its first satellite, FGN-100-d1, into orbit. The launch took place on January 14, 2025, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in the US, as part of SpaceX's Transporter-12 mission. The satellite, weighing 102 kilograms, is the largest satellite developed by a private Turkish company and marks the first step in Fergani Space's Positioning Constellation Satellite Project. FGN-100-d1 separated from the launch vehicle approximately 62 minutes after launch and successfully entered its orbit, beginning its mission by transmitting telemetry data. The satellite, developed entirely with national resources by a team of 106 employees, is designed to operate in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at an altitude of about 510 kilometers and in a Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO), aiming to complete around 15 orbits of the Earth daily at a speed of 7.6 km/s. It is equipped with three redundant flight computers and utilizes green propulsion technology. Selçuk Bayraktar, CEO of Fergani Space and Chairman of Baykar, announced plans to expand the satellite constellation to 100 satellites within five years, aiming to establish a global positioning system named Uluğ Bey, to be shared with friendly and brotherly geographies. Additionally, Fergani Space is working on developing a 50-ton launch vehicle capable of placing 1.5 tons into orbit.
