Taiwan Donates 15 HAWK Missile Batteries to Ukraine: Forbes
Nov 12, 2024, 12:37 PM
Taiwan has potentially bolstered Ukraine’s air defense by donating up to 15 HAWK surface-to-air missile systems, according to Forbes. These systems, which include at least six launchers with three missiles and radars per battery, were decommissioned by Taiwan's armed forces in 2015. The HAWK systems, despite being over 60 years old, are known for their simplicity, reliability, and high mobility with towed launchers. This contribution complements the air defense support already provided by the U.S. and Spain. According to former Pentagon official Tony Hu, Taiwan's donation significantly enhances Ukraine's air defense capabilities, potentially accounting for up to a third of Ukraine's air defense systems. The transfer was reportedly facilitated through U.S. mediation and has been somewhat under the radar.
