Taiwan Receives First Batch of 38 U.S.-Made M1A2T Tanks, Part of 108 Total Order Valued at NT$40.5 Billion
Dec 16, 2024, 04:13 AM
Taiwan has officially received its first batch of 38 U.S.-made M1A2T Abrams main battle tanks, marking the first new tank delivery since 1994. The tanks arrived at the Port of Taipei on December 15, 2024, and are part of a larger military procurement package that includes a total of 108 tanks, valued at approximately NT$40.5 billion (US$1.25 billion). This military deal was initially approved during the Trump administration in 2019. Following their arrival, the tanks were transported to an army base in Hsinchu for training and operational readiness. The acquisition aims to bolster Taiwan's defense capabilities amid rising tensions with China, as the island seeks to modernize its aging military equipment.
