Venezuela Offers $100,000 Bounty for Exiled Opposition Leader González, Who Plans to Assume Presidency
Jan 3, 2025, 07:59 AM
Venezuela's government has announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the capture of exiled opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia. Accused of conspiracy, usurpation of functions, money laundering, forgery of documents, and complicity in violent acts against the country, González claims to have won last July's presidential election against President Nicolás Maduro. After being granted political asylum in Spain on December 20, the 75-year-old is traveling to Argentina to meet with President Javier Milei on January 4 at the Casa Rosada. Despite the arrest warrant, González plans to return to Venezuela on January 10 to assume the presidency, coinciding with Maduro's scheduled inauguration. The meeting with Milei marks the start of an international tour that includes visits to Uruguay, where he will meet President Luis Lacalle Pou, as well as Panama, the United States, and the Dominican Republic. González aims to gather support ahead of his intended return.
