Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, early Monday morning around 4 a.m. as a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 80 mph. The storm, which had strengthened over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, brought life-threatening storm surge, heavy rainfall, and damaging winds to the Texas Gulf Coast. Over 1.8 million homes and businesses were left without power, and significant flooding was reported in Houston and surrounding areas.
