Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, early Monday morning around 4 a.m. as a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 80 mph. The storm, which had strengthened over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, brought life-threatening storm surge, heavy rainfall, and damaging winds to the Texas Gulf Coast. Over 1.8 million homes and businesses were left without power, and significant flooding was reported in Houston and surrounding areas. Evacuation orders were issued for several coastal counties, and emergency preparedness efforts were underway. The National Hurricane Center warned of up to 10-15 inches of rain in some areas, with considerable flash and urban flooding expected. The storm's impact was felt from Corpus Christi to Galveston.
