People's March Draws Thousands Nationwide to Protest President-elect Trump Ahead of Inauguration
Jan 18, 2025, 06:10 PM
Thousands of protesters gathered in Washington, D.C., and cities across the United States on Saturday for the People's March, a demonstration against President-elect Donald Trump and the GOP's policy priorities ahead of his inauguration on January 20. The event, rebranded from the Women's March of 2017, saw participants rallying for women's reproductive rights, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, and democracy. Many protesters wore the pink hats that symbolized the original Women's March. Organizers expected approximately 50,000 people to participate in the capital, significantly fewer than the estimated 500,000 who protested during Trump's first inauguration in 2017. The march, organized by several activist groups including civil rights organizations, culminated at the Lincoln Memorial. Similar demonstrations took place in other cities, including Seattle, as activists expressed their opposition to the incoming administration.
