Brazil Signs Deal with SpaceSail to Challenge Starlink's Dominance
Nov 20, 2024, 01:01 PM
Brazil has signed an agreement with SpaceSail, a Chinese satellite internet company, to provide satellite internet services in the country. SpaceSail plans to start operations in Brazil in 2026, aiming to challenge Elon Musk's Starlink. The agreement was signed during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by numerous Chinese business leaders. SpaceSail has already launched 36 satellites and plans to launch an additional 648 within 14 months. This move comes as the Brazilian government considers easing licensing terms for Starlink, which has agreed to most licensing terms but finds some conditions technically infeasible due to security concerns. Starlink currently has 6,426 satellites in orbit.
