EU Plans Import Duties on Chinese Retailers Temu, Shein, and AliExpress, Scrapping €150 Threshold
Jul 3, 2024, 10:11 AM
The European Union is planning to impose import duties on low-cost goods from Chinese online retailers such as Temu, Shein, and AliExpress. The proposal includes scrapping the current €150 duty-free threshold, which allows items to be bought without customs duties. This move aims to curb the influx of substandard items from China and ensure fair competition for European businesses. Last year, 2.3 billion such items were bought duty-free. The European Commission is expected to present this proposal later this month.
