China Investigates EU Trade Practices Amid EV Subsidy Dispute, Requests WTO Panel on US
Jul 15, 2024, 09:25 AM
China's Ministry of Commerce has launched an investigation into the European Union's trade practices on July 10, alleging unfair treatment of Chinese companies in the EU's anti-subsidy probes. This move comes amid ongoing consultations between China and the EU regarding the EU's investigation into Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). China's Ministry of Commerce has emphasized that the EU should base its decisions on facts and rules, asserting that China's competitive advantage in EVs is not due to subsidies. Additionally, China has requested the World Trade Organization (WTO) to establish an expert panel to address a dispute over new-energy vehicle subsidies under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, as bilateral consultations with the U.S. have failed to yield a resolution. The investigation involves Chinese companies bidding on projects in the 27-nation bloc and the request to the WTO was made on Monday.
