BYU defeated Colorado 36-14 in the 2024 Alamo Bowl, dominating the game from start to finish. The Cougars opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run by LJ Martin in the first quarter. BYU then surprised Colorado with a successful onside kick, maintaining possession. Will Ferrin extended the lead with a 51-yard field goal, making it 10-0. Ferrin would go on to hit three field goals in the game, including a 54-yard kick that set an Alamo Bowl record and tied the BYU record for consecutive field goals made at 15. In the second quarter, Parker Kingston returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown—his second punt return TD of the season—putting BYU ahead 17-0. BYU outgained Colorado 152-61 yards in the first half, including a 66 to -9 edge in rushing yards, leading to a 20-0 halftime lead. BYU's defense stifled Colorado's offense, sacking quarterback Shedeur Sanders multiple times and forcing several interceptions. In the third quarter, Sione Moa scored on a 13-yard touchdown run, increasing the lead to 27-0. LJ Martin added his second touchdown with a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter, making it 33-7. Colorado got on the board when Shedeur Sanders connected with Travis Hunter for a 43-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Sanders later threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Sav'ell Smalls in the fourth quarter, setting a new Colorado career record with 64 touchdown passes. BYU finishes the season with an 11-2 record—their most wins since 2020—and claims the Alamo Bowl championship. Picked to finish 13th in the Big 12 preseason, BYU tied for first place in the conference, capping off an outstanding season.
