U.S. Bitcoin ETFs Surpass Gold ETFs with $129.3B AUM vs. $128.9B Amid Bitcoin's $108K Price Surge
Dec 17, 2024, 06:44 PM
As of December 16, 2024, assets under management (AUM) in U.S. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have surpassed those of gold ETFs for the first time. According to data from K33 Research, Bitcoin ETFs now hold approximately $129.3 billion in assets, compared to gold ETFs, which hold around $128.9 billion. This significant shift marks a notable milestone, considering that gold ETFs have been trading for over 20 years. The rapid rise in Bitcoin ETF AUM has been attributed to a surge in Bitcoin's price, which recently reached $108,000, giving it a market capitalization of $2.13 trillion. This represents about 14% of gold's total valuation of $17.8 trillion. The increase in Bitcoin ETF assets reflects a broader trend in the financial markets as investors increasingly view Bitcoin as a viable alternative to traditional assets like gold.
