San Jose Sharks to Pick First in NHL Draft for First Time, Selecting Celebrini in Las Vegas
May 7, 2024, 11:08 PM
The San Jose Sharks won the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery, securing the first overall pick for the first time in franchise history. This victory enables them to select Macklin Celebrini, a highly-touted prospect from Boston University and the Hobey Baker winner, who is also a former player for the San Jose junior Sharks. Celebrini's local connection is significant as he played for the Jr Sharks and his father works for the Golden State Warriors. The Chicago Blackhawks landed the second overall pick, marking their second consecutive year with a top-two selection. The draft event, set to take place on June 28 at The Sphere in Las Vegas, saw all 16 teams retain their pre-lottery positions, a rare occurrence in NHL Draft Lottery history.
