Official announcement from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT)
Catastrophic Landslide Closes WY Highway 22 Over Teton Pass Indefinitely
Jun 8, 2024, 06:24 PM
A catastrophic failure on Wyoming Highway 22 over Teton Pass has resulted in an indefinite closure of the road. The landslide, which occurred overnight Friday and worsened Saturday morning, has washed away a significant section of the highway, a vital corridor between Jackson, Wyoming, and Victor, Idaho. The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced the long-term closure due to the extent of the damage. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. The closure is expected to severely impact commuters and businesses, particularly in Jackson Hole, where many service workers live on the other side of the pass. Repair work had already been underway to address a crack before the mudslide occurred. Travelers are advised to check the status of WYO-22 before driving.
