Ballistic Missile from Yemen by Houthis Reaches Central Israel, Travels 2,000 km in 15 Minutes
Sep 15, 2024, 04:44 AM
A surface-to-surface ballistic missile launched from Yemen by the Houthis reached central Israel on Sunday, triggering widespread sirens and alarms. The missile, which was detected crossing into Israeli territory from the east, fell in an open area, causing no injuries. Explosions were heard over Tel Aviv due to attempted interceptions by the Israeli aerial defense systems. The missile reportedly traveled 2,000 kilometers in 15 minutes. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the launch origin and stated that the missile was not intercepted successfully. Authorities are investigating the reasons behind the failure to detect and intercept the missile despite the long distance it traveled. The missile was intercepted over Modiin, near Ben Gurion Airport. Five Israelis suffered minor injuries while rushing to bomb shelters.
