Azerbaijan's President Says Plane Shot Down by Russia, 38 Dead
Dec 29, 2024, 01:21 PM
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan announced that the Azerbaijani passenger plane that crashed last week was damaged by ground fire from Russia and rendered uncontrollable by electronic warfare. The Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) flight crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, killing 38 people. Aliyev called on Moscow to admit guilt, punish those responsible, and pay compensation. He criticized Russia for attempting to conceal the cause of the crash by spreading false narratives and expressed disappointment over Russia's handling of the incident. Aliyev noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had apologized for the tragedy occurring in Russian airspace.
