Iran Transfers Short-Range Ballistic Missiles to Russia, Violating UN Resolution 2231; U.S. and EU Plan Sanctions
Sep 6, 2024, 08:37 PM
U.S. and European officials have confirmed that Iran has transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia. This move, which violates UN Security Council Resolution 2231, has prompted the U.S. and EU to work on a sanctions package against Iran. The missiles, referred to as 'Iranian HIMARS' due to their similarity to guided missile artillery, mark the first delivery of such weaponry from Iran to Russia. Despite this development, European officials have not yet decided to reimpose banking sanctions or snapback UN sanctions on Iran, according to the Wall Street Journal. The U.S. and Europe are working on a sanctions response to Iran’s move.
