Texas, ranked No.5, defeated No.4 Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Day, advancing to the College Football Playoff Semifinals. In what was described as an all-time classic, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers delivered a clutch performance, accounting for four touchdowns. Ewers connected early in the game with DeAndre Moore Jr. on a 23-yard touchdown pass after a 54-yard completion to Matthew Golden. In the fourth quarter, Ewers scrambled for a 5-yard touchdown on third down, extending Texas's lead to 24-8. Arizona State mounted a late rally, forcing overtime. In the first overtime, on fourth and 13, Ewers threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Golden. In double overtime, Ewers connected with Gunnar Helm on a 25-yard touchdown pass and completed a two-point conversion to Golden. The game ended when Texas safety Andrew Mukuba intercepted Arizona State's quarterback Sam Leavitt, sealing the victory for the Longhorns.
