Israeli Strike in Khan Yunis Kills Five, Including World Central Kitchen Workers; IDF Says Target Was October 7 Attacker
Nov 30, 2024, 03:26 PM
An Israeli airstrike on Saturday morning in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip, killed at least five people, including three employees of the humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen (WCK), among them the head of the collective kitchens east of Khan Yunis, Azem Abu Daqqa. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike, stating that they targeted a Hamas militant, identified as Hazmi Kadih, who was involved in the October 7 attacks on Kibbutz Nir Oz. The IDF is investigating claims that Kadih was employed by WCK. Following the incident, WCK, founded by chef José Andrés, announced the suspension of its operations in Gaza and is urgently seeking more details. The attack highlights concerns about the safety of humanitarian workers in the conflict zone, as this is not the first time WCK staff have been affected by airstrikes.
