Four Months After Disputed Election, U.S. Sanctions 21 Maduro Officials Including Daniella Cabello
Nov 27, 2024, 04:10 PM
On November 27, 2024, the United States government announced sanctions against 21 high-ranking Venezuelan officials aligned with President Nicolás Maduro, including Daniella Cabello, the daughter of prominent official Diosdado Cabello. The sanctions, imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department, target security chiefs, military and police leaders, intelligence officials, and members of Maduro's cabinet for their alleged involvement in repressing civil society and supporting Maduro's efforts to defy the results of the July 28 presidential election. The U.S. and the Venezuelan opposition claim that Maduro lost the election and accuse his regime of election fraud and post-election crackdown. The sanctions come four months after the disputed election.
