China's Coal Production Hits Record 428 Million Tons in November 2024, Averaging 14.27 Million Tons Daily, IEA Forecasts Continued Global Demand
Dec 18, 2024, 06:12 AM
China's coal production reached a record high in November 2024, with the National Bureau of Statistics reporting that the country mined 428 million tons of raw coal, an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous year. This output translates to an average of approximately 14.27 million tons per day, significantly surpassing the total coal production of the United States for all of 2023, which stood at 574 million tons. The surge in coal production is attributed to the continued reliance on coal as the primary energy source for electricity generation, despite substantial investments in renewable energy sources like solar and wind. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has projected that global coal demand will continue to rise, reaching record levels through at least 2027, as the world grapples with increasing energy needs and a persistent dependence on fossil fuels.
