Rome's Trevi Fountain Reopens After 327,000 Euro Restoration for 2025 Jubilee, Limits Visitors to 400
Dec 22, 2024, 06:30 PM
Rome's iconic Trevi Fountain has reopened following a three-month restoration project, just in time for the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Holy Year. The restoration, costing 327,000 euros, focused on removing dirt, pollution, and limescale from the 18th-century monument. To manage visitor flow and prevent overcrowding, access to the fountain is now limited to 400 people at a time. Rome's Mayor Roberto Gualtieri announced that while there is currently no entry fee, the possibility of introducing a small ticket in the future is being considered to help fund the fountain's maintenance. The Trevi Fountain, an 18th-century monument famous for its appearance in Federico Fellini's film 'La Dolce Vita,' traditionally sees between 10,000 to 12,000 visitors daily, many of whom throw coins into the fountain, a practice that generates approximately 10,000 euros weekly for the Caritas charity.
