India Protests Canada's Allegations Against Amit Shah in Nijjar Case, Warns of Serious Consequences
Nov 2, 2024, 11:33 AM
India has lodged a strong protest with Canada following allegations by Canadian officials that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah was involved in targeting Sikh separatists in Canada, including Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has termed these allegations as 'absurd and baseless' and has warned of serious consequences for bilateral relations. The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that the Canadian High Commission representative was summoned and a diplomatic note was handed over. The note conveyed India's strongest protest against the unfounded insinuations made by Canadian officials during the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on October 29, 2024. Additionally, India has accused Canada of placing its consular officials under audio and video surveillance, which it deems a violation of diplomatic norms. The ongoing diplomatic row has further strained India-Canada relations, with India rejecting Canada's designation of it as a 'cyber adversary' and accusing Canada of trying to discredit India on the international stage.
