Syrian National Detained After Knife Attack Injures Two in Berlin on New Year's Eve
Dec 31, 2024, 05:00 PM
In Berlin's Charlottenburg district, a man attacked and injured several people with a knife stolen from a Rewe market on New Year's Eve. The assailant, identified as a Syrian national residing in Sweden, was detained by the police. The attack occurred around midday on Quedlinburger Strasse, with the suspect allegedly stabbing victims in a supermarket and on a street near a hotel. Two victims were hospitalized, one of whom was later released after receiving outpatient treatment. The police have classified the incident as an attempted murder and are investigating. Initial findings suggest that the suspect may have mental health issues, and there is no indication of a terrorist motive. Bystanders intervened, subduing the attacker until the police arrived.
