Judge Orders Elon Musk to Court Over $1 Million-a-Day Swing State Voter Sweepstakes
Oct 30, 2024, 11:51 PM
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk and his pro-Trump political action committee, America PAC, seeking to halt their $1 million-a-day sweepstakes targeting registered voters in swing states. The lawsuit alleges that the lottery-style giveaway, which offers daily $1 million prizes to voters who sign a petition supporting the Constitution, freedom of speech, and the right to bear arms, may violate federal and state laws governing lotteries and election interference. Over 280,000 Pennsylvanians have already participated in the sweepstakes. Philadelphia Judge Angelo Foglietta has set an emergency hearing for Thursday, ordering Musk and representatives from America PAC to appear in court personally. Krasner has expressed concerns over threats and inflammatory posts directed at him on social media following the lawsuit, requesting enhanced security and a change of venue for the hearing. The lawsuit claims that the sweepstakes is an attempt to influence votes in favor of Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
