Judge Holbrook Upholds Ohio's HB 68, Banning Gender-Affirming Care for Minors
Aug 6, 2024, 06:34 PM
An Ohio judge, Judge Holbrook, has upheld a Republican-backed state law banning gender-affirming care, such as puberty blockers and hormones, for transgender minors. This ruling follows a challenge from families of transgender adolescents and a lawsuit by the ACLU. The judge, from the Ohio Court of Common Pleas, ruled that the law, known as HB 68, does not violate the Ohio Constitution, vacating a temporary restraining order previously placed on the law. The decision means that transgender minors in Ohio will need to seek puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones out of state. This ruling is part of a broader trend, with more than half the states in the United States passing laws restricting gender-affirming care.
