Ohio Judge Permanently Strikes Down Abortion Ban as Unconstitutional
Oct 24, 2024, 09:36 PM
A Hamilton County Common Pleas Court judge has ruled that Ohio's ban on most abortions is unconstitutional and cannot be enforced. The decision follows a voter-approved reproductive rights amendment passed last November. Judge Christian Jenkins, who issued the ruling, criticized Republican Attorney General Dave Yost for attempting to uphold the anti-abortion laws despite the new constitutional amendment. The judge's ruling permanently strikes down the state's so-called 'heartbeat' abortion ban, which prohibited abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy.
