IDF Begins Recruitment for New Ultra-Orthodox Hasmonean Brigade with 50 Soldiers and 100 Older Haredi Men on January 5, 2025

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has initiated the first recruitment cycle for its new ultra-Orthodox brigade, known as the Hasmonean Brigade, on January 5, 2025. Approximately 50 ultra-Orthodox soldiers have been drafted and will form the core of the brigade's inaugural company. In addition to these recruits, another 100 older ultra-Orthodox men are also being enlisted into the brigade. The development marks a significant step in integrating the ultra-Orthodox community into the IDF. Israeli politician Yair Lapid has expressed his support for the new recruits, emphasizing their contribution to national defense and urging them to return home safely.
