Israeli Businessman Moti Maman Arrested for Alleged Iranian Plot to Assassinate Netanyahu, Gallant, and Bar
Sep 19, 2024, 09:43 AM
Israeli security services have arrested Moti Maman, a 73-year-old Israeli businessman from Ashkelon, on suspicion of being recruited by Iran to assassinate top Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar. The arrest follows a joint investigation by Shin Bet and the Israeli police, which revealed that Maman had been living in Turkey and had been smuggled into Iran twice for meetings with Iranian intelligence officers. The plot, uncovered in August 2024, involved Maman being recruited to carry out assassinations of senior officials. Maman reportedly demanded $1 million for his involvement in the plot. The Israeli authorities have emphasized that the Iranian threat remains ongoing. Channel 12 reported Maman saying, "It's good that you arrested me, I don't know where it could have gone."
