Norway's 2024 Electric Vehicle Sales Hit 89%, Led by Tesla, Volkswagen, Toyota, and Chinese Brands
Jan 2, 2025, 02:14 PM
In 2024, Norway achieved a significant milestone in electric vehicle adoption, with 89% of all new cars sold being fully electric, up from 82% in 2023. This figure brings the country closer to its goal of transitioning to 100% electric vehicle sales by 2025, with only 10% more needed to reach this target. The Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) reported that out of 128,691 new car registrations, 114,400 were electric vehicles. Leading the market were Tesla Model Y, followed by models from Volkswagen and Toyota. Additionally, Chinese brands have gained a foothold, capturing nearly 10% of the market. This high adoption rate is supported by government incentives and policies aimed at reducing emissions, despite Norway being a major oil and gas producer.
