Cabinet Approves ₹5 Lakh Health Coverage for Senior Citizens Above 70 Under Ayushman Bharat

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the extension of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to include all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their income. This decision aims to benefit 4.5 crore families and 6 crore senior citizens by providing them with free health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually on a family basis. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the significance of this move, highlighting its potential to enhance healthcare accessibility for the elderly population in India. Additionally, the Cabinet has approved outlays for hydro projects and the PM E-drive scheme.
