Cabinet Approves ₹5 Lakh Health Coverage for Senior Citizens Aged 70 and Above Under Ayushman Bharat

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved universal health coverage for all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). This scheme will provide ₹5 lakh free health insurance to senior citizens, irrespective of their income, with an additional shared top up cover of ₹5 lakh for those in families already covered under the scheme. The decision is expected to benefit approximately 4.5 crore families. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted that this is a significant move with humanitarian considerations.
