Supreme Court Reserves Order on Arvind Kejriwal's Bail Plea in Excise Policy Scam Case

The Supreme Court of India has commenced hearings on the pleas filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking bail and challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. The CBI has accused Kejriwal of receiving money from the 'South Group' for the Goa polls, maintaining connections with the group, and involving Vijay Nair, his media manager, in the transactions. The Supreme Court bench, led by Justices Surya Kant and Ujjwal Bhuyan, is reviewing the matter. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued that the arrest was politically motivated and described it as an 'insurance arrest' following Kejriwal's bail in a related Enforcement Directorate (ED) case. Singhvi also emphasized that Kejriwal is a constitutional functionary and not a flight risk. The court has reserved its order on the bail plea.
