He was reportedly imprisoned in Sednaya Prison, a notorious facility, after crossing into Syria illegally on foot while on a Christian pilgrimage. Timmerman was found near Damascus and was released following the recent overthrow of the Assad regime by opposition forces. U.S. military officials confirmed that he was flown out of Syria to Jordan, where he is now in U.S. custody.
