Texas Judge Issues TRO Against Biden's ATF Rule on Universal Registration Checks Starting Monday
May 20, 2024, 08:48 AM
A federal judge in Texas, Judge Kacsmaryk, has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against a new rule from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) that sought to implement Universal Registration Checks for firearms. The rule, which was backed by the Biden Administration, would have required individuals selling even a single gun to obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and complete gun registration paperwork starting Monday. The TRO, secured by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and supported by organizations such as Gun Owners of America (GOA), Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), and Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA), prevents the rule from taking effect while the case is litigated. The decision is seen as a significant setback for President Biden's gun control efforts and a victory for Second Amendment advocates, who argue the rule is illegal.
