Akal Takht Declares Sukhbir Singh Badal Guilty of Religious Misconduct from 2007 to 2017
Aug 31, 2024, 01:16 AM
The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, has declared Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal as a 'Tankhaiya', which means guilty of religious misconduct. This decision stems from actions taken by his party, the Shiromani Akali Dal, during their tenure in power in Punjab from 2007 to 2017, which allegedly harmed Sikh interests. The declaration requires Badal to appear before the Akal Takht within 15 days to apologize. Sukhbir Singh Badal has publicly accepted the order and expressed his intention to comply by appearing before the Akal Takht to seek forgiveness. Other Sikh ministers from the SAD-BJP government during the same period have also been directed to appear before the Akal Takht. The decision was announced by Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht.
