CBI Arrests Ex-RG Kar Principal, Cop Over Trainee Doctor's Death, Tampering to Protect Sanjoy Roy
Sep 16, 2024, 05:23 AM
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station, in connection with the RG Kar hospital case. The arrests are linked to allegations of tampering with evidence and delaying the filing of an FIR related to the death of a trainee doctor. The CBI's remand note accuses Mondal of not cordoning off the crime scene, making incorrect diary entries, and attempting to sabotage the investigation. Ghosh is accused of downplaying the incident and making vague complaints. The CBI also alleges that Mondal tried to protect the accused, Sanjoy Roy, and facilitated the hurried cremation of the trainee doctor's body. The case has sparked protests from junior doctors, who claim their initial complaints were ignored by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had praised the police for solving the case swiftly.
