Trump to Name Marco Rubio, Florida Senator and Foreign Policy Hawk, as Secretary of State
Nov 12, 2024, 01:44 AM
President-elect Donald Trump is expected to name Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as his Secretary of State, according to multiple reports including The New York Times. Rubio, a foreign policy hawk known for his stances on China, Iran, and Venezuela, currently serves as the vice-chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The announcement could come as soon as Monday. If confirmed, Rubio would be the first Latino to serve as Secretary of State, succeeding Antony Blinken as the nation's top diplomat. The selection comes after consideration of other candidates such as Richard Grenell, Bill Hagerty, and Vivek Ramaswamy. His Senate seat would be temporarily filled by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis pending a special election.
